MIRROR CHECKERS +

MIRROR CHESS

MIRROR CHECKERS and MIRROR CHESS are games played magnetically through a vertical pane of glass. Two full sets of red and black pieces, wooden disks with embedded high strength magnets, hold each other in place. If only one game piece of the magnetic pair is removed, its opposite consequently falls. Likewise, all moves can only be completed if the magnetic pair is reunited. The players must be attentive to their own moves as well as their opponents in order to keep the game from literally falling apart. The participant’s experience of seeing their opponent through the game, as if in a mirror, highlights the symmetry and cooperation of seemingly opposing sides. Simply upholding, sharing or carrying out the game can be as gratifying and important as winning.
